Sleeping Soundly

I am a huge fan of sleeping. If it was possible for me to hibernate I would totally be on board with that. If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed that my bed times can be quite erratic (hi fellow 2am club members!) as there are lots of things that can keep me awake at night - tidying round because I don't like waking up to a mess, fretting over what I didn't get done during the day, planning for the next day, and so on and so forth. There is one thing that I find really important when I do finally climb into bed - having good quality bed linen.

With working as a Trainer I've been all over the place and have stayed in numerous hotels along the way. There's nothing worse than getting into bed after a day spent travelling to find out that it's hard as nails.

Some of my previous haunts, as you can see from above, were nicer than others.

Without a good sleep I am a nightmare of a person. I need my eight hours to be able to function as a human being. Otherwise I get headachy, whiny and especially moany, not to mention the general sluggish feeling that not getting a good sleep gives you. My hobbies (you know, eating, sitting down, lying down etc.) no longer appeal and I spend the day with a frown to rival grumpy cat's. My resting bitch face turns more sour than usual.

With this in mind there are a few things I like to do ensure I get the best sleep possible. I like to have a long bath with a good book, sometimes if I can't sleep I try some light meditation or even a quick run on the treadmill. Without a comfortable bed however, all of the above would be a complete waste of time.

If you're like me, there's no bed like your own. I like my bed to look inviting, but more importantly, to feel like a big cosy cloud. Some companies on my radar for bed linen are CocoonBelledorm and Yorkshire Linen and right after Christmas my plan is to decorate my bedroom so I'll be investing in some good quality bedding. If you're a returning reader you'll know that I'm in the middle of decorating my first home. I wanted to get all of downstairs done first as this is the part of the house that is on show to any visitors however it's now time to focus on me! (and having a dreamy bed set up is top of my priorities).

And obviously, I have to make sure the cats approve.

What do you guys do to help make sure you get a good sleep? I would be eternally grateful if you could share your hints and tips with me.

Also if you've written up any home/bedroom tour posts I'd love for you to leave a link in the comments for inspiration.

  1. Having a made bed to crawl into is always nice, I generally read to help me fall asleep. A good suppostive pillow is a must, perferably the cold side. Do you have a theme for your decorating project? =^-^=

  2. A good pillow is a must! My ears get sore if the pillow is too hard. I haven't decided yet. I love modern and simple with lots of white and natural light but I'm also really loving shabby chic at the moment. xx

  3. I love to have a nice pillow to sleep on, if it's too big then it makes me uncomfortable and I usually don't get a good sleep. Also, I like to read a bit before going to bed or now watch Vlogmas videos and then I usually drift to sleep pretty quickly :)

    1. Vlogmas videos are a good idea but I fear I'd just spend hours on youtube instead of actually sleeping! Think I definitely need to invest in a few books I haven't read to help me wind down. Thank you lovely x

  4. Ou, doing a full redesign of your bedroom would be so much fun! I actually find doing things like that to be the best way to help me sleep. You know that idea where if you spend too much time doing things (like work) in your room that you won't be able to sleep in there? I feel like it's a similar thing; if my room has been the same for too long I have a difficult time sleeping in there. So I change it up every once in awhile.

I actually did a room tour post just the other day! The link is here: http://sexycardi.blogspot.com/2015/11/room-tour.html :)

  5. I think that's a really good call. I spend a lot of time in my bedroom, sitting on my bed working on my laptop in the same old surroundings. I think I'm actually going to move the bed to my other room during the redesign & also make a designanted work area so that I'm not working from bed anymore!

Thank you so much for leaving this link, I'm going to come check out the post right now :) x

  6. Can I just say I loved this post and can 100% empathize. I'm a complete beast when I don't get enough sleep and unfortunately because of my schedule most nights only allow for around 5 hours so I have to be comfortable and fall asleep immediately to get the most out of my sleep! I love spraying lavender scented water on my pillow before I go wash my face for bed. By the time I come back it's dried and leaves the nicest, calmest scent and I can go right to sleep! Great post! 1. Wow 5 hours is not a lot at all. I would be a complete beast 24/7 if I was in your shoes. I have considered the lavender sprays before but was always worried that it would be too strong/headache inducing but you are the second person to recommend it to me so I think i will have to give it a try. Thanks for your help lovely :) xx

  7. Ever since having my daughter, all I need to fall asleep is the opportunity! But I agree, nice bedding is very important.

  8. I'm so bad at sleeping! I have a terrible sleeping patter, I've recently gotten an electric blanket though and it's been great for helping me relax when I get into bed!

    1. Ahhh the electric blanket! I've never had one of those bad boys. My mum was para about them when I was growing up. I could really be doing with one actually, woke up last night totally freezing! x

    1. It's totally true - I am a different person on eight hours sleep than I am on five hours. Sleep is so important! x

  10. Have you tried power naps? They work wonders for me! There are so many apps like pizazz and others that are amazing :)

    1. I will need to look into the apps, that's something I've never thought of tbh! Also I'd love to get involved with power naps but it takes me a bit of time to fall asleep so naps usually wind up with my alarm going off like 2 mins after I've managed to get to sleep haha x
