Do You Believe In Ghosts?

Today's post is a little different. If  you believe in ghosts it might be a bit more up your street. If you don't believe in ghosts - please read anyway and let me know what you think because this still freaks me out.

In true Are You Afraid Of The Dark style, I'm about to tell you the story of something quite spoopy spooky that happened at my mum's house. If you aren't that into being weirded out then you might prefer my much less spooky post - The Ghost Story Cupboard.

Now, I don't know where I stand on the whole believing in ghosts thing. My family are big believers - most of them having seen ghosts of loved ones or, when it comes to my mum, strange men?! A very young member of my family passed away in the home I grew up in and pretty much everyone in my family has saw something in that house - everyone apart from me, ha! I always say that it's because if it is my family member, she hasn't shown herself to me because she knows I'm a great coward and my heart would just stop forever. Part of me thinks that I haven't saw anything though because I convince myself that I don't believe to save me from freaking myself out.

~

ANYWAY. On to the story.
So my mum and sister had been at my mum's house and went out to the shops or wherever. As I mentioned, my mum is a believer and has had some pretty weird experiences involving a pretty bad-natured man ghost. When it comes to my sister - lots of people say that ghosts follow her around. Ever since she was little she would talk to people that weren't there and was just in general a spooky wee cow (love you). We've been to see psychics before and they all tell her that she is in tune with spirits and can communicate with them but my sister always responds with "nah, as soon as you start communicating with them is when the Paranormal Activity ish starts happening" haha!

Now no-one else apart from my mum and sister have a key to my mum's house, so there's no chance that anyone had been inside in the short time they were out. When they got back from the shops, my mum went into the kitchen to put the shopping away and my sister headed into the living room where she was greeted by these -

WHO THE HELL DO THESE HAND PRINTS BELONG TO?!?!?

These pictures would probably be much clearer if I edited them a bit but I didn't want to touch them, I just wanted to show you them as they are.

My mum is a tidy person and does fluff up these cushions when she gets up. As in she shakes them so that they get extra fluffy - doesn't pat them. So here's a few thoughts...
  • Why are there two different sized hand prints?!
  • We have all tried to recreate hand prints in these cushions - me, my boyfriend, mum, sister, sister's friend, mum's friend. The closest any of us could get to leaving a hand print was my sister's friend, who had to rub his hand into the cushion in a back and forth motion, kind of like rolling a rolling pin.
  • There weren't any weird-ass hand prints in these cushions before they left the house.
  • Nothing else in the house had been moved or touched at all.
The rational thinker in me likes to put this down to my mum maybe, without realising, sorting the cushions and somehow making these hand prints before she left. And then my sister, completely out of turn and habit, helping and sorting one of the cushions too. With a child hand. Even though she is in her 20's and has average sized adult hands...

I don't know. This happened a year or so ago and when they called me to tell me about it, they were both speaking in high-pitched dolphin squeaks. I'm the kind of person that thinks about spooky happenings until I have a rational explanation as to why they might have happened but with this one, I haven't been able to. I felt those cushions myself and couldn't leave a hand print.

What do you think? Are you a believer or not? I have approx. 3482 ghost stories I could share with you guys from growing up, I might post some more in the future.

  3. I am not sure where do I stand when it comes to ghosts. I do not believe in them 100%, but I do not feel comfortable talking about them or seeing movies about them. It makes me realize that we are so small and there are so many things that we do know of or understand. And it freaks me out. It's not that I get scared of them, it's that they make me feel weak and kind of unsafe, I guess.
When I was younger, kids my age were going to these creepy old houses trying to find ghosts and all, but I was never one of them. I do think that we shouldn't go after something, we don't know about. I heard lots of stories and how it ended badly.
I don't know how these prints appeared and came from, but it is creepy for sure. I wouldn't feel safe in that house if I found them. Also, love to read more stories from you. It's very interesting experience! :)

    1. It's definitely unsettling. There is an abandoned psychiatric hospital close by where I live and when I was younger I did used to go and explore with my friends. I still am not sure what I believe but it is a bit creepy! xx

  4. So, number one, I love saying 'spoopy,' too :)

Number two, that is definitely a strange story! I am a bit like you in that I try to find rational answers behind things. But I am also in no way on the fence in my beliefs, I just do not and cannot believe in ghosts, haha. The stories are good for entertainment, though. Yours is definitely an odd and confusing one!

I would love to read some more of your stories!

    1. Spoopy is one of my internet faves for sure.

I definitely love to hear stories about ghosts - you're right, they are great entertainment! I like to think I am a rational person but I am so undecided on this - it's not like me at all!

      Thank you :)

  5. I'm not a believer but... I've been in a few places that just didn't feel right? We stayed in a lighthouse and at night it was definitely unsettling, perhaps it was because we were quite cut off from the outside world, I dunno but it always sticks in my mind that something just didnt feel quite right there.

  6. PLEASE post more! I am 100% a believer in spirits. I myself have never seen one but I feel like I'm very intuitive about places. I lived in a place once that I felt very uneasy in and never understood why. The entire year I lived there I slept with the lights on in my room and I am not a person who is afraid of the dark or has ever needed light on. After I moved out I learned a person had passed in a violent way in that house. It's bizarre, I know, but I feel like I know when something bad has happened in a place. Thanks for sharing your stories with us, I LOVE them! XO -Kim

    1. Ooooh that's weird. Pretty scary I think haha.

I have been in situations before where I've felt spooked and have slept with the big light on. Luckily it's never been in my current house - this house has a nice calm feeling thankfully. (It's a new house so there's no history).

I think I will share some of the stories every so often :) Something a bit different to read isn't it?!

Thank you so much :) xx

  8. This is a great post! :) I'm not 100% sure whether or not I believe in ghosts, but I've had a few spooky experiences over the years. Nothing as spooky as this though! I got the chills when I was reading! :O I bet it was so freaky for you all to find those handprints.

Definitely do more posts like this in the future, I'd love to hear more ghost stories x
