The 52 Week Money Saving Challenge

So a friend of mine is doing this challenge. In fact, lots of people are. I've noticed chat about it on various social media sites and decided to have a nosey to see what was going on.

If you haven't heard of it, this is how it works. For every week of the year you put away a sum of money (e.g. week 1 = £1, week 2 = £2 and so on) and by the end of the year you will have saved £1,378

I didn't give it much thought after reading about it as my initial reaction was "am I really going to have £200+ to put away in December, right before Christmas?!" and I just phased it out of my mind. However, it popped back into my mind later in the day like the Justin Bieber tune you can't quite shake (because you secretly love it).

So I have decided I'm gonna play! However, I'm gonna shake it up a bit to suit me better.

Here's how I'm going to make it work for me: I'm going to download a printable online (if you do a google image search there are printables pretty much falling over each other to slide into your downloads) however the way I'm going to work it is that I will save on a weekly basis but instead of following the order of the guide, I'm going to make up my own order. This means that when I have a bit more money to spare I'll be able to check off one of the higher weekly amounts, and in the times that I have splurged I can check off a lower amount.

What do you think - seems pretty do-able right? Have any of you tried this before? What would you spend £1,378 on? ONE THOUSAND QUESTIONS FOR YOU ALL.

  1. I like the way you're twisting it to suit. I'd always been a bit dubious about it because of how much you have to put away in December but having a list to tick is a great idea! Might follow you on this one :) Good luck!!
