A New Tradition - My 2016 Memories Jar

Aloha friends. After posting a snap of this on my Instagram through the week I thought I'd let you in on a little tradition I have started this year. By no means is it brand new, or one that's never been done before, but this is the first time for me. I also want to take the time to share the Etsy page I found this item on because this is the second time I've purchased from this particular seller & I dig them. Yup, dig 'em.

So first thing's first, let's start with the seller. I bought this from Megan Moore Designs on Etsy. If you were following me back in December you might remember a little Christmas gift post I did where I'd featured a Happy Thoughts jar. Well ever since then I knew I wanted something similar for myself because a) treat yoself & b) how cute?!

If you click through here you'll notice that the jar is actually a Future Plans jar however is customisable to suit whatever you want to use it for. I did like the idea of a bucket list but in the end opted for 2016 Memories instead.

The jar comes with these little cards included

The plan is to pop any achievements, adventures etc. into the jar throughout the year and then on Hogmanay my boyfriend & I will open it up and be able to reflect on the good times we've had in 2016.

I'm hoping that we'll have some decent memories in there and not just stuff like "remember that really good macaroni we had back in June" because let's face it, sometimes food is just so good I can't get over it. I've already popped in a little card with the highlights of our trip to Piperdam Lodges, and a few other memories - spending our 8th Valentine's Day together & a promotion at work included.

I would definitely recommend checking out Megan Moore Designs
Unfortunately, the 2nd time I bought one of her items the post office decided to have a lil game of hide and seek with my jar (ie. denying they'd ever had it but somehow managing to get their hands on it and send it back to the seller - mhmm) so the lovely Megan sent it back to me immediately without any fuss and I had it in my hands within a couple of days.

What do you think of this tradition? If you were to buy this jar, what would you use it for? Would it be a memories jar like me, a bucket list or something completely different?

  3. This is such a lovely idea. I bet it will be lots of fun looking back at it when the time comes.

That's partly why I started a blog actually; to log my memories as my brain is like a sieve sometimes! xx

  4. I am doing this for a second year and I can not express how nice and fun it is to look back at this jar and see the things you accomplished or that made you very happy at the certain time. I love how adorable your jar looks!

  5. That jar is so cute, and keeping memories is such a good idea :) It would be so nice to look over them at the end of the year. And it would be better than reading through a journal - not everything in those are nice memories, or even things worth looking back on (I do a lot of rambling in mine, haha). I can't decide if I would do a memories jar or something else, though!

    1. That's very true - journals have the pits as well as the peaks so at least this jar can focus on the positives! x

  8. This is such a lovely idea, I need one. There are so many little things which are the best in the moment and then forgotten so this is a great way of revisiting the good times. =^-^=
