Updating My Living Room

It finally happened! I finally got my new furniture!

I have been so excited to change my living room and when my new couch, chairs and foot stool were delivered last week I immediately whipped out all of my new accessories and got down to business. My absolute favourite item is my new occasional chair.

When I moved into my house in December 2014 I moved in with a second hand couch, which of course there is absolutely nothing wrong in doing so, but towards the end of last year I decided I wanted to buy something of my own. And by "buy" I mean take out on finance through Harveys *cough*.

I'm usually a saver and would much prefer to buy things outright but hey this is real life. Real life sometimes doesn't give ol' Christie here such pennies to spend on furniture - it's more likely to hit me with car services and insurance bills and the like. I feel like I got a really good deal though, I'm paying £25 per month (interest free) for 4 years and I have a 3 seater couch, a chair, an occasional chair (pictured) and a foot stool - I think this is quite good! I'm also able to repay early so might use my savings to do so.

I wanted to make a place in my living room that would be perfect for relaxing with a book or my laptop. At the opposite side of the room I have french doors and my garden faces on to the sunset - it means that if I cosy up after work I can see all the pink + orange skies from my little corner.

I still have a few things to do to complete the look - I have bought these fancy bulbs from IKEA after seeing them on display, how cool right?!

I also want either a black and white poster or a range of framed prints for the wall above the radiator. I think. Still not 100% sure what to do with this wall space so if you have any ideas please help a girl out.

Notice the cat tower in the last picture. I don't know why but for the longest time I've had it in my head that the living room is certainly not a place for cat towers. A weird thing to think, I know, but I think it stems from seeing so many pictures online of amazing living spaces that are free of any kind of mess or...reality?! Does that make sense? I dig my cats. I definitely want them to hang out with me 24/7 so I think the cat tower is staying put for now.

So what do you think?
I'm really pleased with how this is looking so far! Seriously though, help a girl out.
What would you do with the wall space above the radiator?

  1. Aw, your living room is so cute! I think you definitely got a deal with the furniture. As for the cat tower, you're totally right! So many spaces online are these perfect little show rooms that don't need to take reality into account. Besides, if you have the tower there, your cats are probably less likely to get hair all over the human furniture ;)

I kind of like the wall bare, as it is. But I think a really simple print might also look nice. Maybe a line-art sort of thing, maybe geometrics to match the pillow and the light fixture?

  2. I love what you've done with the room here! How about a print above the radiator? Something like a graphic illustration that plays off the black geometric shapes in the room or a print with soft washes of color to contrast.

  4. I love how your corner looks right now! Very bright and very well decorated. I would maybe put few frames with graphic art or few quotes on that wall to fill in the space. Nothing too much through as it can end up looking very crowded :)

  5. Love this so much, such a cozy corner. I think the whole point of pets is to interact with them so looks like the perfect place for the tower to me. Positive quotes for the wall, could be a chance to add a splash of colour. =^-^=

  7. I completely love this type of interior. I'm getting my first flat soon, so I'm all over anything to do with home aesthetics. Your lampshade is such a cute detail.

  8. I love this, your living room is fantastic, you have great style! I'd probably put floating shelves...I love a good piece of artwork but I'm so practicle, I always like shelves for a bit more room LOL. Maybe with some books like a little reading corner. You did a great job! XO -Kim
