Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions

Aloha lovelies. You all know that when it comes to beauty, I'm very much a novice. So much so, that if I won the lottery, one of the first things I'd do is hire a lil personal stylist crew to sort out my hair and face on a daily basis because girl needs all the help she can get.

With this in mind, I decided to try out semi-permanent eyelash extensions. My natural lashes are blonder than the sun and therefore invisible against my pale skin so I thought extensions would help give my eyes some definition as well as save me some time in the mornings by not having to put mascara on.

The Application Process

I got to do one of my favourite things: lying down for an extended period of time. I opted to go for "natural" extensions for my first time and the application took around 40 minutes, which to be honest didn't really feel that long. I had strips stuck on under my bottom lid to protect my bottom lashes from the glue, then spent the remainder of the time with my eyes shut as the lashes were stuck on individually.

I'm really funny with eyes - I can't watch people touch their eyes/put in contact lenses etc. without my whole body freaking out, but I managed to survive this process. Heroic, I know. The worst part was having the strip put on because you have to keep your eyes open but I kept flinching and closing them which obviously made the whole process quicker and easier. Not.

The Result

BAM. Long, dark lashes. What a twist to this story right? Totally unexpected result.

So yeah, they pretty much do as they say on the tin. My eyes were a bit stingy immediately afterwards however by the time I got from the salon to the car they were fine.

I love the finished look. In fact, I love it so much that for the first time in years, I left the house the other day without any make up on. This might not seem like a big deal to most but this is somewhat of a massive self confidence issue with me and I'm taking it as a little victory. Weird how seemingly trivial things like eyelashes can make a difference, huh?

I've had the lashes on for just under two weeks and they're still going strong, although I have one or two ragamuffins getting a little rowdy and needing combed back into place every now and again. I've saved myself time in the mornings getting ready for work and I've had a fair few compliments on how they look and how they've opened up my eyes. And if anyone has had anything bad to say about them they haven't done so to my face so it doesn't count. Yup.

One thing to note is that sometimes during showering my eyes end up stinging and I haven't quite mastered how to avoid this happening.

The Details

The eyelash extensions cost me £40 and I've to go back every 2 weeks for infills which cost £22. I did need to have a patch test carried out 48 hours prior to application to ensure I didn't have a bad reaction to the glue. I was told to avoid water for the rest of the day and to be careful when applying and removing make up around the eyes, avoiding oily make up removers.

I was also told to avoid eyeliner. I did have a mini bitch fit in my head when I was told this because hi I've been wearing cat eyes religiously for years and oh my god I am going to look like an infant and how could you do this to me, but yeah, as I'm not one for overreacting (lol) I decided to play along and rock the no eyeliner look and SURVIVED TO TELL THIS TALE.

I did wear eyeliner yesterday actually for the first time and it was fine. I was just super careful when I was applying and taking it off.

I had these treatments done at Diva Nail Bar & Salon in The Elements, Livingston.

Have you ever had lash extensions before?
Are there any other beauty treatments you'd recommend?

I definitely like to spend as little time getting ready as possible so if you have any advice, or even posts I could get hints and tips from then fire them my way.
Also, I hate sharing pictures of myself so snapchat ones it is. Don't @ me.

  2. These look sooo good on you! I would love to get some lash extensions in the future as I have really tiny eyelashes but I am worried about keeping up with them and the cost every month x

    1. Yeah the cost is something that really needs to be considered however they make such a difference. Keep-up wise I have two rules: don't sleep on your face and use a little brush on them. :)
